Summary

Strange things are happening in Nevermoor。。。

Morrigan Crow faces her most dangerous challenge yet in her latest Wundrous adventure。 The highly anticipated third book in the award-winning Nevermoor series from one of Australia's bestselling and most loved authors。

Morrigan Crow and her friends have survived their first year as proud scholars of the elite Wundrous Society, helped bring down the nefarious Ghastly Market, and proven themselves loyal to Unit 919。 Now Morrigan faces a new, exciting challenge: to master the mysterious Wretched Arts of the Accomplished Wundersmith, and control the power that threatens to consume her。

But a strange and frightening illness has taken hold of Nevermoor, turning infected Wunimals into mindless, vicious unnimals on the hunt。 As victims of the Hollowpox multiply, panic spreads。 And with the city she loves in a state of fear, Morrigan quickly realises it's up to her to find a cure for the Hollowpox, even if it will put her - and everyone in Nevermoor - in more danger than she ever imagined。

Another BRILLIANT instalment in the Nevermoor series! These books are just wonderful, and I think I will reread them all MANY times。 The third book is slightly more serious and turns a bit darker than the previous books, which obviously is just how it should be in a coming-of-age story。 Having said that, I think this was the funniest one yet。 Several times I found myself chuckling at a funny part of dialogue or some weird situation。 There were also some bigger ongoing themes in this book, which Another BRILLIANT instalment in the Nevermoor series! Pidän näistä Morrigan-kirjoista jopa enemmän kuin Pottereista aikoinaan。 Toki näistä huomaa, että kirjailija on potterinsa lukenut。 Silti nämä astetta tai kaksi pidemmälle, mutta ainakin tähän asti kiltimpään, faantasiaan viedyt kirjat ovat omanlaisensa。 Loistavana suomentajan näissäkin Jaana Kapari-Jatta。

Probably closer to a 4。5, I loved diving back into the world and story of Mog and all her friends。 It was interesting and of course action packed。 I just don't know why but I didn't find myself as invested in this one as the first 2。 However, THAT ENDING!!!!! I need book 4 immediately。 Please and thank you kindly。 Probably closer to a 4。5, I loved diving back into the world and story of Mog and all her friends。 It was interesting and of course action packed。 I just don't know why but I didn't find myself as invested in this one as the first 2。 However, THAT ENDING!!!!!

Another great installment in the Nevermoor series。 I thought this would be a trilogy, but the cliff hanger at the end says otherwise。 Closure will have to wait for a little (or a lot) longer。 Overall, I enjoyed this one。 I love Townsend’s Rowlingesque writing style。 The plot progresses nicely, the characters are three dimensional, the chuckles keep on coming。 I will say that the Hollowpox sickness hit a little to on the nose for a 2020 book, so that was unfortunate。

happens is her fault, something she needs to apologise for。 Give her a family that can’t wait for the day of her death。 Then take her away from that family, but tell her that she has a dangerous magical affinity。 Tell her that the last person who had the same affinity is the most evil man in the world。 No matter how kind and wonderful her new family is (and they are so wonderful), do you think that everything that’s happened to her, everything she’s been led to believe she is (evil, cursed, wrong) just goes away? This is Morrigan Crow’s story。 And the answer to my question is no: those fears and feelings don’t magically disappear。 Jupiter and her family at the Deucalion, and her friends at the Wundrous Society are wonderful, and so far away from Morrigan’s horrible family, they’re like night and day to each other。 And she knows she’s lucky to have all those people in her life, but there’s still this thread of resentment, of anger that she can’t stifle。 This has been a continuing thread through these books, and I think this is what makes this series so interesting to me。This isn’t a story about heroes and villains。 It’s not that clear cut。 Morrigan has a strong sense of what’s right, but she also has a strong sense of how she’s been wronged。 Both of those things influence her。 She wants to help people, partly because it’s the right thing to do, and partly because she needs to prove herself。 As well as being angry, Morrigan is also ambitious, and those are two things that make her fascinating。 Part of me wonders if I’m seeing a villain origin story unfold in these books。 Now, it is a children’s series, so I very much doubt it, but I’ve a feeling that Townsend may skirt the line, if only to show how easily a good person can go bad。 And that’s fascinating。I think the fact that Ezra Squall plays a bigger part in this story than he has in the others hints that Townsend isn’t interested in exploring good and evil as polar opposites。 From things that Squall has said, and things that are revealed about both him and Morrigan, it feels like Townsend is exploring how evil is made, and, perhaps, unmade。 Squall is certainly not your one dimensional evil villain, and Morrigan is not some pure-hearted hero。 I mean, she shares the name of a dark goddess of ancient Ireland, so…Aside from the central relationship/antagonism between Morrigan and Squall (which becomes even more interesting in this book), we still have the whimsical, magical elements of Nevermoor that have become a hallmark of the series。 We are introduced to new places and people here too。 There’s also a lot of new Wundersmith lore that’s going to make the series even more interesting going forward。But alongside the whimsy, there’s also a heavy dose of darkness。 It doesn’t only come from Squall, or from the disease that’s affecting Wunimals: it also comes from the people around Morrigan, the people who are supposed to be protecting her。 There’s quite a big dose of betrayal in this book, from people who should be looking out for Morrigan, and it’s heartbreaking to read。 It does make me understand why Squall might have turned against the Wundrous Society。 There’s a dark thread that Townsend is weaving here that I think we’ll see develop more in future books。Don’t worry, though: I’m in no way referring to Jupiter。 He continues to be a joy, even though he and Morrigan don’t see eye to eye at times in this book。 He does the sweetest thing for Morrigan at one point that proves how much he cares about her。 As long as Jupiter’s around, I think Morrigan will have the love and understanding she needs。So, complex characters, whimsy, interesting ways to travel through time and space, and a loving found family make this story just as much fun as the first two。 At the same time, Townsend has set up so many ideas to explore in future books。 I feel like she knows where she wants to go with Morrigan’s story, and I feel like Squall weaves into that quite a bit。 And I foresee more intrigue and betrayal, both from within Nevermoor and from without。 I’m definitely going to continue the series。 I feel like I’ll be reading right up to the last book。 And I’ll be watching the inevitable movies too。This does feel more complicated and nuanced than Potter to me now, I have to say。 There’s a real depth to the characters, and it manages both whimsy and darkness so deftly。 Plus, the cast of characters is diverse, and there isn’t that problematic issue of making a villain character overweight, or making fun of characters we’re not supposed to like in other ways。 Also, Townsend hasn’t shown herself to be problematic the way Rowling has。 I've given each Nevermoor book the equivalent of five stars, which I didn’t with the Potter books。 I just like these better。 I’m so looking forward to more。 I really can’t tell where it’s going to go (and I could with Potter), which is always a good thing。Blog: awonderfulbook。com | Such a great series! I think I've just noticed all these books start around Christmas time。。。 Not sure。 Love the Characters, they're always so different and varying。 It's a fun cast。 Not to mention the Hotel itself。 I definitely count it as another character。 It's got it's own moods。。。 I wish we had "ghostly hours", that would be so much fun, and we would probably havea more accurate history。。。 Such a clever idea。 The library was soooooo cool! I’ve been avoiding anything about widespread illnesses, not exactly something I’ve wanted to read about while living through it, but this was the exception to that rule。 This isn’t just about the Hollowpox and infected wunimals, it’s about intolerance, xenophobia and fear of the unknown bringing out the worst in people。 Three books in and it’s starting to become clearer what a wundersmith is, and although there’s a lot to still learn it was a joy to read about Morrigan finding her place among others like her。 The ghostly hours are an ingenious way of teaching, and I loved the addition of the new characters helping to teach Morrigan, especially Sofia。 The Hotel Deucalion is one of my favourite parts of Nevermoor, and it’s increased sentience was a delight to read - sentient buildings have popped up a lot in my reading this year and I love them! Rereading all three books back to back, the planning in the small detail are clear。 There are still so many unknowns, especially after that ending, pity I have to wait until 2022 for the next book! 。。。more

The hollowpox plot bored me so much that at 30% I'd no interest in continuing the book。 I decided to continue, hopping it would become better, but after some time, the only way to solve the boredom was to skip all the hollowpox parts。 It worked nicely。 I liked following Mog as she learned new things about Squall and new ways to master her powers。 The rest felt like fillers。 This 3rd volume was very disappointing as I enjoyed a lot the previous two。 I almost totally forgot I was reading it。。。 The hollowpox plot bored me so much that at 30% I'd no interest in continuing the book。 I decided to continue, hopping it would become better, but after some time, the only way to solve the boredom was to skip all the hollowpox parts。 It worked nicely。 I liked following Mog as she learned new things about Squall and new ways to master her powers。 The rest felt like fillers。 This 3rd volume was very disappointing as I enjoyed a lot the previous two。 I almost totally forgot I was reading it。。。 。。。more

I almost marked down because there was too much recapping of concepts early in the book that I didn’t think was necessary, but I can’t help myself。 I LOVE these books and the characters in them! Cinna from The Hunger Games has long been the literary character I wish I could have as a real life friend。 And now there’s Jupiter North。 If he was real, this world would be a better place!

The third book in the Nevermoor series was just as amazing as the other two。I absolutely loved being back there, catching up with the residents at the Deucalion and seeing how Morrigan progresses with her knack of Wunder。It was especially good to see more of sassy Fen as the Magnificat has always been my favourite character。 A new addition to Hollowpox was Sofia, an adorable little Foxwun, who I became really fond of as the story went on。 I really hope we see more of her in the future books。I ca The third book in the Nevermoor series was just as amazing as the other two。I absolutely loved being back there, catching up with the residents at the Deucalion and seeing how Morrigan progresses with her knack of Wunder。It was especially good to see more of sassy Fen as the Magnificat has always been my favourite character。 A new addition to Hollowpox was Sofia, an adorable little Foxwun, who I became really fond of as the story went on。 I really hope we see more of her in the future books。I cannot wait for Silverborn, although as it isn't out until October 2022, I have no choice but to do so。 。。。more
